Google: the mean kid with the pool

In entrepreneurs, social media by Marijo Cuerrier

I am fussy when it comes to what social networks I play on, but I have given in to Google + and have joined it for business. I look at Google as similar to that mean kid in grade school that no one really liked because they didn’t play fair, but you had to be nice because their dad had a swimming pool. Here are 5 reasons why you need to make friends with Google:

1. Google has Become the God of the Internet

I don’t know about you, but my philosophy when it comes to this happiness and success in life is that you don’t want to make enemies with the creator of the universe. So if I want to be happy and successful with my online business, I had better make sure I am on more than friendly terms with the Google God.

2. Google + Fosters Relationship Between Like-Minded People

Facebook is for sharing my life with a select number of friends, or – in the case of my business page – posting information that helps my clients to succeed online. Twitter is for business networking and keeping in touch with things that matter to me. But my all time favourite social networking tool is Instagram, I have been using it since 2010. It is my happy place where I go to share my passion for creative art and photography with like-minded people. Both Google + and Instagram foster passions between like-minded people all over the world.

3. Facebook has Control Issues

Have you noticed that you are not seeing all of your friends posts? Do you ‘like’ a page and then never see any posts from them? It’s because Facebook is filtering what you see. There are a lot of people that are not too happy about this. If I have a facebook friend or like a business it is because I want to hear what is going on with them. I don’t want algorithmic bunch of numbers to decide for me what I may or may not want to see on any given day. Google + doesn’t do hide any of his posts from your followers. What does this mean for your business? Don’t stop using Facebook! Facebook is still the largest and most valuable social platform to promote your business. Just be sure to use Google Plus as well to capture that additional audience.

4. Google + Lives in the Moment

Ever wonder why it takes time to get your website to show up on a Google search? It’s because websites are notcrawled immediately by search engine spiders. But Google Plus, since it’s Google’s product, has immediate access to all posts made, so they deliver new content into the search engine world much faster. Content also gets ranked on Google Plus and can show up in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) if it correlates with a user’s search query.
Another reason immediate indexing is valuable — think of how fast your Twitter feed moves. Tweets can get lost or not read in the matter of minutes, but content on Google Plus can show up in search engine results for long periods of time if it is relevant to users looking for that content.

5. Google + Shops Locally

If you want to get up there in local search results, Google My Business (GMB) puts your correct business info on Search, Maps and Google+ so make sure to get set up and optimized on GMB.
Lastly, I am new to Google Plus and I don”t find it intuitive to use, so bear with me as I learn the curve. I am currently waiting for snail mail from them so I can verify my account. Once I do that I will follow up with a post about my experience using it.
